China First Face Recognition National Standard Released

Recently, GB/T 38671-2020 "Information Security---Technical Requirements for Remote Face Recognition System" lead by the First Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security was officially released. This standard is under the centralized management of the National Information Security Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC260) and will be officially implemented on November 1, 2020.

The explosion of artificial intelligence requires standardized

Thanks to the massive growth of data and information and the leap-forward improvement of computer technology, artificial intelligence ushered in its explosive development in the 20th century. After years of savage growth, artificial intelligence has become a strategic technology leading a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation in China.

Like all disruptive technologies, the new generation of artificial intelligence has a high degree of uncertainty. It may have a significant impact on the economic structure, social model, etc., and even affect the law, personal privacy and so on.

Therefore, China urgently needs to establish clear and standardized national standards and industry standards to steer the sustainable and healthy development of artificial intelligence.

The standard is based on meeting the overall requirements of personal information protection and general information security requirements, fully considering the current development needs of face recognition system innovation, user acceptance and technology maturity status, combined with China's current level of information security technology development, in-depth analysis of ISO, ITU, NIST, FIDO and other foreign standards, which makes the use of face recognition system for identity verification have standards to follow.

The rapid development of the Internet has on the one hand prospered Chinese IT industry and commerce, on the other hand it has also brought challenges to public safety, cyberspace governance, and network security. How to use artificial intelligence technology to solve the problem of identity recognition and authentication has the need to be clear.

The issuance of this standard is a milestone in promoting the industrialization development of China's face recognition technology, enriching China's biometrics technology system and application scenarios with face recognition as the core, and truly playing the leading role of the standard technology to accelerate China's standardize of face recognition and even the whole AI industry.
